We are continuing to work on our final math unit of addition and subtraction. We will increase the numbers we are adding and subtracting from numbers within 5 to numbers within 10 and we will also increase the word problems to be more challenging with missing addends or a missing beginning (not just missing sums) An example story problem: Farmer Brown has 8 hay bales, his horse eats some hay bales. Now Farmer Brown has 3 hay bales left. How many hay bales did the horse eat? 8-__=3
Students are not expecting to know how to read the story problems themselves. Students are expected to use their listening skills to hear key words in order to know if they must add or subtract.
This unit will carry us through until the middle of May.
Please continue to work with your child at home on fact fluency, adding and subtracting numbers within 5 without using their fingers!
