We started our new unit Becoming An Avid Reader. They are learning that an avid reader is someone who loves reading so much they don't want to stop reading! We are going to focus this week about how avid readers react to books as they read them--laugh, cry, be scared for the character--and how to share those feelings about the book with a friend. We want the children to learn how to use more words than just happy and sad to describe how the book is making them feel. We are going to practice setting some reading goals for ourselves. Continue to encourage your child to use their reading superpowers (picture power, sound power, pointer power, reread power, partner power, snap word power, and persistence power) as they read. If there is one they are not using that often, have them try to use it a little more.
It is wonderful to see so many of our kindergartners so EXCITED to read!
