Our Becoming An Avid Reader is moving along wonderfully. The focus for next week is comparing and pretending using our nonfiction books. Continue to have your child use fancy words to explain what they have learned in a non-fiction book. Ask your child what new nonfiction topic interests them and find other books about it.
We will be working on poetry this week also. They will learn that reading poetry is a lot like reading songs. In fact, many poems are songs. Avid poetry readers read a poem over and over until the tune is just right, the rhythm is right and the feeling is right. The students will practice reading for meaning and rhythm and fun.
Please continue to encourage your child to use their reading superpowers (picture power, sound power, pointer power, reread power, partner power, snap word power, and persistence power) as they read. If there is one they are not using that often, have them try to use it a little more.
It is wonderful to see so many of our kindergartners so EXCITED to read! We hope you are enjoying listening to them read as well!
