Our new unit is about bigger books and bigger reading muscles. The children are beginning to read books which have more words and sentences. They are very excited to read these new books!
As we continue to build these reading muscles the children will now stop and ask, "Does it make sense? Does it sound right? Does it look right? IF things seem off, readers reread to fix it up. Remind them to use their "super powers" to help.
Also, they will begin to notice some changes to some of our snap words. They don't always recognize them because authors sometimes change them around a bit. When a word looks like a stranger the reader will need to--look again. They will build the skill where they can ask, "Does this look like another word that I know?" For example: look--looking, see--seeing, like--likes.
Please encourage your child to practice these skills at home to help build his/her confidence. This is a little tricky for them as they begin this next step into reading.
