As we finish up this unit, please continue to encourage your child to reread stories. When he/she reads a book over and over again he/she can try to use some of the exact words from the book. Some of the words, especially words that repeat, become words that he/she will know by heart. They become words that he/she can say exactly like the book. He/she says the exact words as they are remembered. Then, he/she can find those words and point to them and read some of them. This is another step in connecting the pictures to the words in the book.
You look at the picture, remember how the story goes, and then read it to yourself page by page. Continue to have your child practice retelling a story. He/she can even practice talking like the characters. This will help your child to stop and think about all they remember.
