We have finished our Super Authors books! We cannot wait to see those finished products. We are moving back into Show & Tell writing. We are working on showing and telling about places we go to a lot or places we love. We are learning that if I want to show and tell with my voice I can do that same thing in a book. What I say out loud are the words I need to write on the paper and I need to be a "Brave Speller". Stretch out the words and write down the sounds I hear. As we write about our favorite places, we will add lots of detail, including people and what we do in these places.
Continue talking with your child at home about ideas they could write and putting those ideas over multiple pages. We will work on this for 3 more weeks.
We have recently partnered with an organization called Super Authors that allows each student to publish their very own book! Each child will be working with their teacher on publishing a book titled “My Favorite Things about Kindergarten”. We will then host an Author Celebration and Book Signing on Dec. 16th from 8:15-9am. You can purchase a paperback version for $15 or a hardcover for $20 and a portion of the proceeds will go back to New Prospect!
We wanted each child to see how they can be a published author with perseverance and hard work! These books will be a great keepsake for you and your family to remember this time in their lives, as well as gifts during the holiday season. If you would like to order your child’s book an order form will go home on Monday and you can place the order until Nov. 1st. At any time after Nov. 1st you can go back and order more copies of the book, but in order for it to be at the school for the Author celebration it must be ordered before Nov. 1st.
Below is are two links where you can see the end product! We are very excited about this opportunity for our students to shine as authors!
We have wrapped up our narrative writing unit and are beginning something new!
This next unit is called Show and Tell- it is informational writing. Students will need to bring in something they love from home that can fit in their cubbie and stay here by Tuesday 10/8! Students will work on their drawings as they work on teaching about this item and then labeling it. We will work on spelling more sight words in our writing and stretching out more sounds to be "BRAVE SPELLERS". Students will learn to show and tell more than just an object they love in their writing, but also people and places they love to teach about those things.
Continue to encourage drawing and writing at home in realistic ways and spelling words by listening to the sounds they hear as they say them!
