Happy Friday Panther Parents! We hope that your students enjoyed the first week of school as much as we did. In this area of our blog, you will get reminders and information about anything having to do with our writing activities, writing curriculum, and our Writer’s Workshop model! Please be on the lookout for a blue writing folder that will be sent home next week. This folder will go home with a letter with directions for decorating. This writing folder will be stored in the classroom and the place where students will keep their work throughout the workshop process.
We will begin our first unit of study in writing by launching the Narrative Unit of Study in Writer’s Workshop. This unit begins with establishing routines and procedures during workshop and how to become writers and authors in the classroom. We will teach students how to draft ideas on paper with pictures and words, practice establishing stamina to carry on independently as writers, and how to stretch out words by sounding them out and using letter/sound correspondence. Our narrative unit of study will focus on how to plan out writing books page by page, how to draft ideas for narrative writing, and allowing students to practice storytelling through their writing. We will teach students how to add details to their words and pictures as well as how to bring their writing to life. We are so excited to mold your children into authors to allow their creative selves to shine!
