We are focusing our writing on things we really know about! We will begin writing narratives in the coming weeks. Our focus is on the standard: K.W.3: use a combination of drawing, dictating, writing to narrate a single event and to tell about the events in the order in which they occurred and provide a reaction to what happened.
Students need to be able to draw a picture including people and a place to help tell the story they want to share.
Students need to be able to write the sounds they hear to attempt to write words that match their picture.
Students need to be able to spell any words that are on our word wall correctly (sight words). If it is not on our word wall it is not required to be spelled correctly- just that the letters were attempted based on the sounds the student hears.
How can you help your child at home? Talk with your child about the things you do together (go to the park, vacations, trips to the store) or even small events when your child was happy or sad. Note these moments to your child as something they could write about at school. Say, "You should write about this at school" "What would you draw to match this event?" "What happened this weekend that you could tell in a story at school?"
